Good morning, here's your wx discussion for Monday, April 28:

Even though temperatures are about 10 to 15 degrees below average, we continue to near the summer solstice or the first day of summer, which takes place on June 21, a little less than two months away. With each day closer to the summer solstice, the northern hemisphere tilts a little closer toward the sun, helping to bring more direct sunlight into the region and also making the days a little longer. The sunset is now before the 6 a.m. hour and the sunset is near 8:15 p.m., making the amount of daylight around 14.25 hours. We will gain about another two hours of daylight by the summer solstice when the sunrise is around 5:15 a.m. and the sunset is a little after 9 p.m. At least we can count on the sun. The atmosphere has its own personality and decides whether or not it's going to be hot, cold or right on target. Unfortunately, it will continue to remain cool over the next week or so with a chance of showers and maybe even thunderstorms by the end of the week. Heavy rains late last week have allowed rivers and creeks to swell a little, and minor flooding is occurring in a couple of spots. A flood warning continues for the Prairie River near Taconite in Itasca County through late tonight and the Mississippi River at Aitkin in Aitkin and Crow Wing counties until further notice. Watch out in those areas and have a good Monday.
