Good morning, here's your weather discussion for Wednesday, Sept. 10:

What a splendid day Tuesday, eh? Not much to complain about considering what the weather has been like over the past week or so. Ever since the long Labor Day weekend, we've been in a much cooler weather pattern, all thanks to a big change in the jet stream, or strong upper level wind. It has dipped south of us, allowing some much cooler and well-below-average temperatures to settle in. Weak upper level disturbances, riding along the jet stream, have brought us some unsettled weather as well, but rain chances haven't been very big. That all will change later tonight and early Thursday morning as a much stronger wave develops to our west today. Over the past couple of days, weather models have been hinting at a heavy rain potential for quite a few folks around the Northland. One, maybe even 2 inches of rain will be possible as thunderstorms develop along a frontal boundary and roll through the Northland over the next 24 to 36 hours. Keep in mind that the Duluth International Airport is about 1.5 inches below normal precipitation since Jan. 1, so the heavier rainfall will be welcome. The U.S. Drought Monitor still has parts of the Northland under moderate drought conditions! Get those umbrellas and raincoats ready for Thursday morning; you'll most likely need them.

Here's your forecast:

Today: Increasing clouds, and breezy; Winds: S/SE 10-20 G30; HI: 66;

Tonight: Scattered thundershowers developing late with heavy rain possible; LO: 52;

Thursday: Scattered storms likely early, then decreasing clouds; HI: 67; LO: 49;
