Holiday closings
Today is Independence Day. The following offices will be closed in observance of this holiday.
The Duluth Transit Authority will suspend all regular route and STRIDE services in the Twin Ports today with the exception of the Port Town Trolleys and will resume full regular route and STRIDE services on Monday.
Closed Monday: Post offices in Duluth and Superior; Duluth city offices; St. Louis County offices; Minnesota state offices; Minnesota and Wisconsin federal offices; Wisconsin state offices; all Duluth library locations; Superior city offices; Douglas County offices; Superior library; Duluth and Superior schools and school district offices; Fond du Lac Reservation tribal offices; and Western Lake Superior Sanitary District facilities (except household hazardous waste and yard waste facility).
Police recommend parking downtown for Fourth Fest

There will be limited parking at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center ramp and on Railroad Street beyond Fifth Avenue West today during the annual Fourth Fest Celebration in the Bayfront Festival Park area.
Traffic congestion will increase as the day goes on, the Duluth Police Department said in a news release. Police are advising that those attending events park downtown and walk. Expect long traffic delays after the fireworks. Access to Park Point and Canal Park will be restricted until traffic clears.
Harbor Drive will be closed in the evening, and Fifth Avenue West below Interstate 35 will be closed before the fireworks, which start at 10:10 p.m. and will last 20-25 minutes.
The Aerial Lift Bridge will be in a down position from 7 p.m. today until 1 a.m. Monday.
The Police Department will provide traffic control after the fireworks.
