The Salvation Army will receive four new people to help lead its Duluth branch.

Beginning Wednesday, Tonya and Alan Carlson will be the new branch administrators, said Annette Bauer, Salvation Army spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, Majors Alan and LaVonne Fones will serve as pastors. The Carlsons came from the same positions in South Bend, Ind.

The couple replaces Majors Mark and Sue Welsh. Mark Welsh specializes in project development. The couple was reassigned to Fort Wayne, Ind., shortly after Duluth's bid for a $50 million Joan and Ray Kroc Community Center in West Duluth failed to pass final approval by Salvation Army leaders in Chicago.

Bauer said the Salvation Army center in Fort Wayne is quite large and the community is four times the size of Duluth.

The Fones were also branch administrators in St. Cloud, Minn.

"We are thrilled to have the Carlsons and Fones serve in Duluth," said Major Daniel Sj'gren, commander of the Salvation Army Northern Division, in a statement.
