Outdoor recreation opportunities on the Fond du Lac Reservation received a boost Tuesday, with an $85,000 grant from the host committee for next February's Super Bowl in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund on Tuesday awarded the grant to the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa for three projects:

• expanding and paving a mile-long path to the Fond du Lac Cloquet Community Center.

• improving the community garden at Fond du Lac Ojibwe School.

• renovating the community's outdoor skating rink and stocking it with skates and supplies that will be available to use, free of charge.

"Our tribal leaders are focused on providing resources that improve community engagement and encourage lifelong healthy habits," Kevin Dupuis, chairman of the Fond du Lac Band, said in a news release. "This much-needed investment in community gathering places on the reservation will provide resources for physical activity and improve access to nutritious, Native food sources for young people and families."

Over the course of a year, the host committee is awarding $1 million in grants to communities across Minnesota.

Super Bowl LII will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis next February.
