The National Weather Service has dropped the flood watch and warning that covered portions of Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin earlier today.
However, there is a small-craft advisory in effect for western Lake Superior at 1 p.m. this afternoon and into tonight, as strong westerly winds and high waves will cause hazardous boating conditions.
Much of the Northland was under a flood watch or warning early today. Thursday's rainfall totaled 2.66 inches, shattering the previous record of 1.06 inches set in 1984. Thursday's rain brought the month-to-date total to 6.29 inches by midnight, compared to a normal amount of 1.55 inches. An additional .57 inches of rain has fallen since midnight.
Thursday's rain caused some localized flooding and resulted in sewage overflows at 14 sites around Duluth. This morn-ing, the Western Lake Superior Sanitation District was discharging from only one location.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of showers tonight before 1 a.m. Saturday should be partly sunny with a high near 60.
