A record number of runners have entered Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon on June 21, according to statistics released Tuesday.

A record number of runners have entered Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon on June 21, according to statistics released Tuesday.

The 32nd Grandma's Marathon has 9,888 entries, up from 9,747 last year, while the 15th Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon has 6,619 entries, up from 6,395 last year.

In 2007, Grandma's Marathon ranked No. 11 among United States marathons in the number of timed finishers, 6,967. The Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon was ranked No. 29 among half-marathons with 5,263 finishers.

As a marathon and half-marathon combination, the two Grandma's races were rated No. 7 nationally with 12,230 finishers.

The 15th William A. Irvin five-kilometer race on June 20 has 1,342 entries, one more than its record total in 2007.

The three races have a combined total of 17,849 entrants for 2008 with 9,636 men and 8,213 women.

Grandma's Marathon, a 26.2-mile race from Two Harbors to Duluth's Canal Park, has sold out for 14 straight years.
