Five swimmers, one relay team advance to finals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Northland swimmers and one relay team advanced in the Minnesota Class A swimming and diving meet Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Northland swimmers and one relay team advanced in the Minnesota Class A swimming and diving meet Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton sophomore Grace Moores, senior Ana Vang and Grand Rapids senior Meredith Latimer were in the top 16 after preliminaries in two events each.

Moores finished seventh in 1 minute, 59.69 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and 14th in the 500 freestyle.

Vang finished 15th in the 500 butterfly and 13th in the 100 backstroke.

Latimer finished 13th in the 200 freestyle and 16th in the 100 freestyle. Fellow Grand Rapids teammate Dana Christmas was 16th in the 100 backstroke.

Greenway's Dajana Vidovic was highest local finisher in any event with a sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle.

Hibbing's 400 freestyle relay team of Jessica Nordstrom, Whitney Finco, Hattie Degnan and Britta Degnan were 13th in 3:47.85.

The finals are at noon today.
