Earlier this year pastors April Ulring Larson and Judd Larson of Duluth's First Lutheran Church visited Haiti, where they heard stories of rebuilding from the 2010 earthquake, and the hope that comes with the rebuilding: children being able to look forward to schools opening.
This Easter First Lutheran put its efforts into making school kits.
June 8 and 9, school bags made by Duluth's First Lutheran women will be combined with thousands of school kits from other Lutheran congregations in Northeast Minnesota at the Northeast Women of the ELCA's 25th anniversary gathering at University of Minnesota. They will be trucked to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse in the Twin Cities.
First Lutheran Church Women led about 30 sewers, 150 Sunday school children, and many congregation members in making and filling 220 student bags filled with needed school supplies.
