The Duluth Fire Department responded to two fires at Spoon's Bar & Grill in the Lincoln Park neighborhood Thursday morning. No injuries were reported from either fire.
When firefighters arrived at 2:27 a.m. at 2113 W. Superior St., flames were coming from the rear end of the building and could be seen through a window, according to a news release from the fire department. Firefighters breached the window and extinguished most of the flames from outside.
The building was then searched and no occupants were found. The fire was limited to the kitchen area and was extinguished by 4:30 a.m.
The fire department received another call reporting smoke from the kitchen just before 11:40 a.m. Thursday. Crews extinguished the fire in the kitchen and ceiling, and used ladders to access the stack house from the roof. The stack house had a vent coming into the kitchen, which was removed using a chainsaw and extinguished.
According to the release from the fire department, fire officials believe the fire reignited in an open space between the kitchen and the stack house.
Damage is estimated at $100,000 for building contents, structural damage and smoke damage. The initial fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage, while the second caused an additional estimated $25,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The restaurant opened in its permanent location, formerly home to Mitch's Bar & Grill, earlier this year.
