A maintenance shop at the Elbow Lake Lodge north of the city of Cook was severely damaged by fire on Monday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that the Cook Fire Department was sent to the lodge just after 9 a.m. The caller reported having seen smoke coming from a shop area that was about 30-by-60 feet. When he opened the door, smoke poured out. After closing the door, he called 911.

The building housed various maintenance items and implements used at the resort.

The Minnesota state fire marshal responded and is investigating along with the Sheriff's Office. However, the origin did not appear to be suspicious, according to the Sheriff's Office.
