No one was injured in a fire that broke out at a Rice Lake home on Tuesday.
Just after 5:30 p.m. the Rice Lake Fire Department responded to a fire call at 5170 Gortin Road, where a 12-year-old boy was at the residence alone, according to Rice Lake Fire Chief Mark Niemi. Firefighters had to cut holes in the roof to gain access to the fire.
Fire departments from Hermantown, Canosia, Lakewood, Normanna and the Minnesota Air National Guard assisted at the scene. A damage estimate was not available Tuesday night, but the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office in a news release called the damage "significant." The cause of the fire is still under investigation, by the Rice Lake Fire Department and the Sheriff's Office, but "foul play is not suspected," the news release said.
