Dollar Tree fire investigated as arson
Sunday’s fire at the Dollar Tree in Duluth’s Spirit Valley neighborhood is being investigated as an arson, Duluth Fire Marshal Marnie Grondahl said Thursday.
“Where the fire started, there’s nothing in the area of origin that could have accidently started the fire,” Grondahl told the News Tribune Thursday.
The fire, which occured in a storeroom at the Dollar Tree store, 215 N. Central Ave., at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday resulted in $15,000 in damage to the structure and $80,000 in damage to its contents. Mostly due to water damage, the Duluth Fire Department said.
The store was occupied at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the identification of the person who caused the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-723-2020.
Another smaller fire at the Dollar Tree was reported in September and was also likely an arson, Grondahl said.
