A Lincoln Park duplex was damaged in an early morning fire Saturday.

The Duluth Fire Department responded to a two-story duplex at 214 N. 28th Ave. W. at about 6:38 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a fire at the rear of the duplex with one occupant trapped inside, a news release said.

The occupant was removed through a second-floor window and a search confirmed there was no one else in the building. The occupant who was removed from the duplex was evaluated by Mayo Clinic Ambulance and declined to be transported to a hospital, a news release said. Tenants weren't able to return to their units immediately due to smoke damage.

Initial damages were estimated to be $30,000. The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office. Crews from headquarters, Lincoln Park and Spirit Valley stations remained on scene for over an hour.
