Two separate fires over the weekend heavily damaged two homes in Hibbing.

A home at 19th Avenue and 26th Street caught fire early Saturday. Hibbing Police Sgt. John Dibley said the home was "likely a total loss."

The owner of the home, Stanley Yeshe, was reported missing for a day, Dibley said, but was later found; he was away from the house during the fire.

Dibley said the cause was still under investigation.

The other fire, which was reported at 1914 E. 27th Street early this morning left two people and their two dogs homeless, said Tony Guerra, the director of emergency services for the Red Cross in Duluth. Guerra said the Red Cross placed the couple in a local hotel.

He said no one was injured in that fire.
