GLYNDON, Minn.-Crews from two volunteer fire departments responded Sunday, Dec. 3, to a shelterbelt on fire near here.
Clay County Deputy Colin Jorgenson said the fire wasn't reported. While on patrol, he spotted the fire at about 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of 130th Street South and 60th Avenue South. That's southeast of Glyndon and northwest of Barnesville, Minn., about a mile west of state Highway 9.
"We don't know how the fire started, but it looks like it's an old shelterbelt that's burning and it's burning pretty good with this wind," he said Sunday night while firefighters from Glyndon and Barnesville were still on the scene.
No one was injured by the fire and there didn't appear to be a threat to any other property, he said. Jorgenson said authorities had unsuccessfully tried to contact the property owner Sunday night.
He guessed at 9:30 p.m. that crews would be on the scene for at least another hour or two to get the fire under control.
