Firefighters battle large house fire in Ely

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of burns.

Firefighters responded to a large house fire in the downtown Ely area Thursday. The fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. at 15 Central Ave. S., according to the Northland FireWire website.

Two occupants were able to make it out, but one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of burns. Two dogs were also able to get out safely.

Ely, Babbitt and Morse-Fall Lake firefighters assisted at the scene. Ely Ambulance also provided medical standby.

Ely Fire Department, Ely Police Department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire, Northland FireWire reported.
