An afternoon fire destroyed a Mountain Iron home Monday, according to the Virginia Fire Department.
The owner of the home at 8791 Arbor Lane reported the fire at 12:36 p.m. The owner and a pet dog were not injured in the blaze, which caused about $200,000 in damage. The fire's cause and point of origin are under investigation, said Dan Gustafson, assistant chief of the Virginia Fire Department. Flames were seen through the attached garage roof and had moved into the home by the time fire crews arrived.
"The house is a total loss," Gustafson said.
Assisting the Virginia department were Mountain Iron and Eveleth fire departments and the Mountain Iron Sheriff's Department and Virginia Auxiliary.
