A home to two adults and four foster children was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon nearly 30 miles northwest of Duluth.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was called in by a neighbor at noon, according to Grant Gimpel, Grand Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief. By the time firefighters arrived at 7707 Birch Road in Canyon, the home was fully engulfed. No one was injured and no animals were lost in the fire, but the home is a total loss, Gimpel said. The cause is under investigation.

Cotton, Ellsburg, Canosia and Northland township fire departments also battled the blaze and were on the scene until about 3:30 p.m.
