Fire damages Vermilion Lake Township home

Five fire departments and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a house fire in Vermilion Lake Township on Monday morning.

The fire was reported at 11:50 a.m. in the 6200 block of Wahlsten Road, according to the Sheriff's Office. The house was engulfed when firefighters and law enforcement arrived, and it sustained severe fire and smoke damage.

The homeowner was home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured, according to Sheriff's Office Sgt. Robert Tarr.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office and the state Fire Marshal's Office.

Vermilion Lake, Embarrass, Pike-Sandy, Tower and Breitung fire departments responded.
