Fire damages home in Virginia

A fire caused an estimated $70,000 in damage to a Virginia home on Monday. No injuries were reported.

The Virginia Fire Department reported in a news release that firefighters responded to the home at 710 13th St. N. shortly after 1:30 p.m. and found black smoke showing from all sides of the residence. No one was home at the time of the fire and firefighters located the fire in the basement, where it was quickly extinguished.

The owner of the home has been notified, authorities said. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4 p.m.

The Mountain Iron and Eveleth fire departments assisted with suppression efforts. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Virginia Fire Marshal; no preliminary cause had been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
