A structure fire in Duluth's Piedmont neighborhood caused an estimated $12,000 in damage Friday.

The Duluth Fire Department reported that it responded to a fire at a two-story duplex at 2201 W. 12th St. at 5:19 p.m. Friday. The first crew to arrive on the scene found smoke coming from a second-floor deck, with the fire extending up the exterior siding to the eave, officials reported. Firefighters brought a fire hose up a ladder to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported. The occupant of the upstairs unit was outside when fire crews arrived and the homeowner was not at home at the time, the fire department reported.

The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
