A fire early Sunday caused about $20,000 to a duplex in Duluth's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Firefighters responded to the home at 320 N. 27th Ave. West at about 3:45 a.m. and found smoke coming from several windows on the second floor of the building. The fire was located in a storage room on the second floor and was quickly extinguished. No one was injured, the Duluth Fire Department reported.

The occupant of the upper unit told officials that he woke after hearing a loud noise, and evacuated the building after trying to fight the fire with a fire extinguisher. The downstairs occupant, who has limited mobility, was not in immediate danger from the fire and was assisted from the building by Duluth police officers.

Fire crews remained on the scene for two hours to assist investigators and complete overhaul operations on the structure.

Damage to the building and contents was estimated at $20,000. The cause remains under investigation.
