Duluth News Tribune News Brief

A Duluth home suffered major damage after a fire Sunday night. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire around 9:35 p.m. at 8 N. Lakewood Road. Arriving crews found heavy fire attacking the front of the home, a news release said.

The main body of the fire was quickly knocked down, but the fire spread to the walls and attic, making isolation difficult, a news release said.

Crews remained on scene into the early morning to ensure the fire remained extinguished. Damages to the building and contents are estimated to be $250,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

Other agencies assisting on the scene included fire departments from Lakeside, University of Minnesota, Woodland and headquarters stations as well as Duluth Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota Power.
