The Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a structure fire at 1312 N. 56th Ave. W. at approximately 10:50 p.m. last night. Initial arriving fire companies found a single story house with a full basement and attached garage. Heavy fire was reported in the garage area at the rear of the house.

Crews forced entry through the front door and made their way to the basement level - the fire was extinguished and crews did prevent the fire from spreading into the house. The garage and exterior of the house (rear) was heavily damaged by the fire; early damage estimates are $40,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the buildings contents.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and little information is available regarding the owners of the property at this time.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
