A Duluth man has been indicted in U.S. District Court for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
An indictment unsealed on Friday charges Nicholas James Worden with possessing a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber pistol last October. Worden is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions in St. Louis County for first-degree burglary, check forgery and offering a forged check.
The case is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lake Superior Drug and Gang Task Force under "Project Safe Neighborhoods,'' a U.S. Department of Justice initiative that promotes multi-jurisdictional law enforcement and crime prevention efforts.
