The Henry Sibley debate team hosted their first tournament of the season. The tournament, consisting of fourteen schools, was held at Sibley the weekend of October ninth. The topic of the debate was immigration. This debate was a classic debate. In the past, debates primarily have been policy debates. Now, with classic debate, the debates are more focused and topic-oriented unlike the generalized policy debates of the past. Both varsity and JV/novice competed in the tournament. Sibley came out with a ninth place finish, while Eastview placed first. Before the next tournament, the topic must be chosen. Every participating school's debate students will vote for their preferred topic. The current topic choices are: China, nuclear energy, the Tea Party, and social networking. The current Sibley favorite is nuclear energy.

How long do they have to prepare? The debate will take place on November 6th at Eastview High School.
