Evening forecast: Possible 'lines of thunderstorms'

Waves of thunderstorms were moving into the Northland this afternoon, running from southwest to northeast, with several spurring severe thunderstorm warnings from the National Weather Service.

Waves of thunderstorms were moving into the Northland this afternoon, running from southwest to northeast, with several spurring severe thunderstorm warnings from the National Weather Service.

A long line of scattered storms stretched form north of International Falls all the way to south-central North Dakota, with several cells producing wind, hail and lightning.

The entire front was expected to sag south and east, and lines of thunderstorms could hit the Twin Ports and other areas later this evening.

By 4:30 p.m. two major storms were located north and west of Brainerd while another appeared headed toward Voyageurs National Park south and east of International Falls and yet another threatened Northome in southwestern Koochiching County.
