Nominations for the 10th annual Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources - La Crosse Tribune Ethical Hunter Award are being accepted to recognize hunters who set positive examples in the field.
The nominee must be a licensed Wisconsin hunter and the ethical hunting act must have taken place in Wisconsin during the 2006 calendar year.
Written nominations should contain the name, address and telephone number of witnesses. Nominations should be sent to Warden Supervisor Steve Dewald at the Department of Natural Resources, 3550 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, WI 54601 before Jan. 15.
Nominations sought in Minnesota, too
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, the Department of Natural Resources and Turn In Poachers seek nominations for the 15th annual Minnesota Deer Hunter Ethics Award, according to a DNR news release. The Deer Hunter Ethics Award will honor a deer hunter who has exhibited conduct during the 2006 season that can serve as an example of admirable hunting practices to all hunters.

Anyone may nominate a hunter by writing a letter or e-mail explaining the actions of the nominee. Youths and adults are eligible, but nominees must be Minnesota residents.

Trail volunteers needed in Duluth
The city of Duluth seeks volunteers to work on upgrading its trail system. No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome. The next scheduled supervised workdays will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Kingsbury Creek Trail. Interested volunteers are asked to meet city park maintenance staff at the start times listed above at the Kingsbury Creek Trailhead parking area, one block east of the Lake Superior Zoo at the north end of Waseca Street. Hartley holds auction
Hartley Nature Center in Duluth will hold its third annual "Eat Sweets, Bid on Treats" benefit auction from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
