An Ely man is in jail and two people are in the hospital following a domestic disturbance Saturday evening in Morse Township near Ely.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says Brian Nihart, 35, of Ely is in the St. Louis County Jail facing charges of second-degree assault, domestic assault and kidnapping.
St. Louis County Sgt. Grant Toma said Guy Gordon, 52, of Saginaw and Candace Lundstrom, 20, of Ely were trying to flee from Nihart in a vehicle when Nihart allegedly broke out a window of their car. He then allegedly attacked each of them with a knife, slashing them. The alleged assault occurred in the 1300 block of Winton Road.
Both victims were taken to Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital and listed in stable condition. Nihart was arrested at the scene.
Ely police and the Lake County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.
