Pumpkin spice, sweater weather, changing leaves, running five kilometers…
It seems to be the season for 5Ks, and wouldn’t you know it, the Bayfield Peel Out 5K Trail Run is kicking off at 9 a.m. Oct. 4.
Registration is available online at peelout5k.com or at the event from 8-8:45 a.m.
The Peel Out, which at a reported 3.1 miles has a somewhat loose association with the moniker “5K” but that’s OK since it’s for a good cause, welcomes runners, walkers and families. The course is a mixture of wide cross-country ski trails and narrow mountain bike trails.
But this race is not like the others.
In the spirit of the Apple Festival, the race organizers challenge participants to carry an apple, which they will provide, throughout the entire race. For those who conquer the apple challenge, a complimentary caramel apple sundae will be provided to the victors.
The race will be held at the Mount Ashwabay Ski and Recreation area. For more information, go to peelout5k.com, or call (715) 779-5408.
