Back on Feb. 4, the News Tribune ran a story about Lakeview Christian Academy junior basketball player Eva Reinertsen.
The week before, she had made a half-court shot at the buzzer to send a game into overtime, earning her a milkshake from coach Kris Mallett. It’s a tradition Mallett has carried over from her playing days: in practice or in a game, a half-court basket earns a milkshake.
But back in early February, Reinertsen wasn’t ready to cash in; she wanted to wait until March for the return of her favorite: a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s.
The restaurant chain heard about that, and decided to treat Reinertsen - and the whole team - to the green, mint Shamrock Shakes on Thursday morning.
But all of the players - not just Reinertsen - had to earn the treat.
“I wasn’t going to let the girls have a milkshake without making a shot,” Mallett said, “so they’ve been working quite a bit all week at making their shots.”
