Beach Sweep today

The public is invited to come out today and help clean up Duluth area waterfronts as part of the 13th annual Minnesota Beach Sweep sponsored by the Great Lakes Aquarium.

The event, one of hundreds in 123 countries around the world, runs from 2-4 p.m. at three locations in Duluth: Lester Park, Chester Park and the Boy Scout Landing access of the St. Louis River. Just show up with appropriate clothing and a willingness to help!

Buddy Walk Sunday

The eighth annual Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome is set for Sunday at Pioneer Hall in the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Check-in starts at

10:30 a.m. with events at 11:30 a.m. and the walk at noon.

T-shirts for participants, entertainment and games, rain or shine. Registration is accepted the day of the event, although shirt size can't be guaranteed.

It's an effort to raise money for Down Up North, the Duluth Down Syndrome Parent Group, and the Down Syndrome Association of Minne-sota. Go to www.downupnorth.org for more information or information about how to help.

Mayor's Night set for Tuesday

Duluth Mayor Don Ness will hold his Mayor's Night event with Duluth residents starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall. The event will continue until each person has a chance to speak with the mayor.

The meeting will be in the mayor's fourth floor reception room, which is Room 405 at City Hall. Meetings with the mayor will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
