The Northland had one participant in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, but she didn't make it into today's semifinals.

Emma Greenlee, a seventh-grader at Mesabi East in Aurora, spelled "temerity" and "hobbledehoy" correctly but she didn't score enough overall (with the written test on Tuesday) to advance.

Two Minnesotans, one from Fairmont and one from Rochester, advanced to the semifinals, according to Scripps.
