Barton Sutter, a three-time Minnesota Book Award winner and former poet laureate of Duluth, performs a Scandinavian/folk-flavored variety show with his brother, Ross Sutter, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cloquet Public Library.
The brothers’ presentation is a blend of song, story and poetry reflecting the immigrant experience and Scandinavian heritage in northern Minnesota.
Barton Sutter has won the Minnesota Book Award three times - the only person to have done so - in fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. Ross Sutter plays guitar, button accordion, dulcimer and Irish drum. He has collaborated on a CD of the music and poetry of Scottish poet Robert Burns and has performed on “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Their library appearance is made possible by grants from the Minnesota Department of Education and St. Paul Public Libraries, sponsor of the Minnesota Book Awards, and the Sons of Norway Foundation. Sons of Norway’s Heimsyn Lodge will provide refreshments.
