Thursday afternoon’s big Duluth East boys hockey victory - the Greyhounds rallied from three goals down in the third period to beat St. Thomas Academy in overtime in the state tournament quarterfinals - reverberated not just in Duluth or Minnesota, but across the country.
In the minutes after Ryan Peterson scored the game-winning goal, “Duluth East” was one of the top 10 trending topics across the United States on Twitter.
In other words, the win got a lot of people talking on social media nationwide. The Greyhounds will try to ride the momentum - Twitter and otherwise - in a semifinal at 6 p.m. today against two-time defending champ Edina.
