A century-old, though recently unearthed tale by a Norwegian playwright will be staged today at the Underground.
“The Uprooting” is an immigration play by Vigleik Rosseland and it tells the story of the young Norwegian farmers and craftsmen who were enticed to emigrate to America in 1825.
The immigrants, known as Sloopers, are the ancestors of many Norwegians who later settled in Minnesota.
This play, performed by members of the Nordic Center, is at 7 p.m. today at the theater in the lower level of the Depot at 506 W. Michigan St. Tickets are $10. A reception follows, including live music, a cash bar, Nordic appetizers and access to the Immigrant Waiting Room Exhibit.
