The Lake Superior School Board held an emergency meeting Tuesday evening to approve a medical leave of absence for the district superintendent. William Crandall requested medical leave from Aug. 26 through Oct. 16. The motion was approved unanimously by the board.
The board also unanimously appointed Two Harbors High School Principal Jay Belcastro as the interim superintendent because he has superintendent accreditation.
"In the absence of our superintendent, we're required to have a licensed interim named to act on behalf of the district," board Chair Tracy Tiboni said.
Crandall also serves as superintendent for Cook County Schools.
