Two Harbors will soon have a new selfie tour.

The Two Harbors High School DECA chapter's 2020 marketing project focuses on getting more people around Two Harbors and Lake County by creating a social media campaign and maps of the area with points of interest and good selfie locations.

The DECA students presented the new project to the Two Harbors City Council at the council agenda meeting on Monday, Jan. 13. DECA student leaders Riley Larson and Sarah Archer laid out the details of the campaign and sought permission from the council to lay down selfie spot decals in several locations around the city later in spring.

"Our goal is to get people up and moving around Two Harbors and realizing that there’s more to this town than just the lake," Larson said. "We have a bunch of little hidden gems around our town and Lake County in general and we’re really excited to get the word out there. We’re passionate about it. We hope people will realize that Two Harbors is a really cool place to be."

The selfie tour will mark spots on both a physical map and with vinyl decals on the ground. Participants will be encouraged to share selfies online with the hashtag #MyTwoHarborsAdventure. Spots on the tour will include the ore docks, Odegard Park, the Coca-Cola mural near Castle Danger and more.

The selfie tour is one of three tours developed by the DECA group. Another tour will mark significant points in Lake County history. The last tour will focus on the four state parks in Lake County.

Councilors were generally friendly to the idea, but encouraged them to meet with the street superintendent, community planner and city administration before they order decals to ensure they are in compliance with city sign laws.

"Thank you for coming and sharing your project with us. I always get excited to see what you have coming up next," said council president Robin Glaser.

The DECA request was added to the council consent agenda and passed with unanimous approval of councilors present. Mayor Chris Swanson was absent.
