Editor's note: About that story...

Budgeteer editor Jana Peterson added a paragraph of background information to the press release, "Minnesota News Council Narrowly Upholds Sheda Complaint Against Local TV Station" that appeared on Page 4 of last week's Budgeteer.

That three-sentence paragraph left out a very important piece of information: the fact that, according to a criminal complaint citing Luis Mark Hogan's eventual confession and witness accounts from that night, Adam Sheda was on his back, being repeatedly punched by party host Luis Mark Hogan, when the gun entered the picture.

According to the complaint, Hogan was straddling Sheda on the ground and punching him when Sheda allegedly pulled out the pistol. Hogan wrestled it away, put the barrel under Sheda's chin and shot him while yelling, "187," which he later admitted knowing as a reference in certain rap songs to the California penal code number for murder, the complaint said.

"[Hogan] admitted to [having] the better of Sheda and that Sheda was intoxicated and probably took out his pistol because [Hogan] was hurting him," the complaint said.

We apologize for any confusion that resulted from last week's brief explanation of the Sheda story and complaint.
