East student: Avoiding 'east' and 'west' labels would unify all

A lot of debate has gone into planning new high schools in Duluth. I have been a student of Duluth Public Schools for 10 years, and though I believe I am getting an exceptional education, I also feel students are separated by schools.

The name for the new eastern high school should be North Shore High School. If one school has to change its name, so should the other. The western high school, now known as Denfeld, should be called Twin Ports High School.

This way there would be no separation by direction, as there would be with Eastern High and Western High. There would only be names that are universal to the community. Students would not feel separated by ends of town, but feel unified. These names are just two terms for the same place, making them no different from each other.

And that's the whole point of this red plan: to unify all the students of Duluth and break the current divisions between them.
