No serious injuries were reported, but a garage and cars inside were destroyed in an early morning fire on Friday in Duluth's Kenwood neighborhood.

The Duluth Fire Department said the fire at 302 Thurber Road was reported just before 4 a.m. The attached garage was engulfed in flames and spreading toward the house, but occupants were evacuated safely. Because no hydrants were located nearby, fire department units from Rice Lake, the 148th Air Guard, Lakewood Township and Hermantown responded and were credited with helping to confine the fire to the garage. The house sustained some smoke, soot and water damage.

Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $75,000 for contents.

The Duluth fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.

One of the homeowners was checked at the scene by Gold Cross ambulance because of possible smoke inhalation.
