Some rush-hour commuters were treated to unleaded gas prices of $1.99 a gallon Wednesday night at a handful of stations around Duluth.
At 4 p.m. at Duluth's M&H gas station, 1230 W. Michigan St., an average of three cars idled in line as drivers patiently waited for their chance at one of the station's six pumps.
Bill Schnuckle of Duluth was taking advantage of the $1.99-per-gallon price by topping off the tank of his silver Chevrolet Suburban.
"I come here pretty often," he said. "When you're driving a tank like this, you look for the cheap stuff."
Not to be outdone, several gas stations in Duluth's western neighborhoods also dusted off the 1's for their signs. Still, drivers had to comparison-shop for the cheapest gas.

The Holiday station at 5430 Grand Ave. had gas for $1.99, but it went for $2.01 at the Spur station on North 27th Avenue West.
The Piedmont Milk House, 2701 Piedmont Ave., had gas for $1.99. Cashier Amy O'Brien, who started her shift there at 5 p.m., said traffic was steady.
"We have had a ton of people buying gas," O'Brien said. "Definitely a lot more customers filling up. They're all commenting on how low it is.''
Prices remained anchored at $2.03 in many other Duluth neighborhoods. Gas stations in the Woodland and Kenwood neighborhoods and in Canal Park and on Park Point all sold their unleaded fuel at that price.
In Cloquet, unleaded gas dipped to $1.96 a gallon at the Holiday station at 1420 Cloquet Ave. Night assistant manager Debbie Lehto was swamped with sales, but it wasn't because of the gas price.
"I've been doing Powerball, Powerball, Powerball,'' she said before the Wednesday night drawing for an estimated $240 million.
