Duluth's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Committee has announced this year's events.
On Jan. 20, there will be a community worship service at St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, 530 N. Fifth Ave. E., beginning at 5:30 p.m.
On Jan. 21, a free community breakfast will be served at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2430 W. Third St., beginning at 7 a.m. The breakfast will include television coverage of Tavis Smiley, editor of "The Covenant with Black America," who will be speaking at a similar event in Minneapolis. A local program will follow, which features the music of 2one8 and poetry by Donny Morris.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day March from the Washington Center, 310 N. First Ave W., to the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center begins at 11 a.m. on Jan. 21. A rally begins at the DECC at approximately 11:45 a.m. The event's keynote speaker is Al McFarlane, publisher of Insight News.
And at 6 p.m. on Jan. 21, the Poetry Slam: Quest 4 the Voice 08, begins at the Washington Center.
