A former Duluth city councilor bowed out of the race to become a St. Louis County commissioner on Friday.
Meanwhile, St. Louis County Board Chair Mike Jugovich filed for reelection earlier in the week.
In bowing out of the race before he filed for office, Noah Hobbs said he didn't want to be the cause of creating an all-male County Board. Hobbs had sought the 3rd District seat being vacated by Beth Olson, who is not seeking reelection and the only woman on the board.

"I believe it is important we have balance in positions of leadership," Hobbs tweeted Friday. "I do not believe it is beneficial or advantageous to have boards or delegations to be comprised of solely one gender."

Ashley Grimm handily won Democratic-Farmer-Labor endorsement for the 3rd District seat. Hobbs had also sought the endorsement. Grimm is the only woman to file through Friday in four County Board races up for election.
Both Joe Macor and Eric Erkkila filed their 3rd District candidacies this week. Neither sought DFL party endorsement and have committed to facing Grimm in the Aug. 11 primary. A primary would narrow the field to two for the Nov. 3 general election.
District 3 represents western Duluth on the seven-member County Board.
Jugovich, of Chisholm, filed to retain his seat in the 7th District. Also filing through Friday, Patrick Boyle in the 2nd and Keith Musolf in the 5th; both are seeking reelection.
