Duluth woman gets prison sentence for Oxycontin crime

A Duluth woman was sentenced to 16 months in prison in federal court in Duluth on Monday for distributing narcotics from January 2007 through May 2010.

A Duluth woman was sentenced to 16 months in prison in federal court in Duluth on Monday for distributing narcotics from January 2007 through May 2010.

Tinamarie James Nelson, 33, faced a potential penalty of 20 years. She was indicted on Feb. 8 and entered a guilty plea on May 4 before U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank, who sentenced her on Monday. In her plea agreement, Nelson admitted filling her Oxycontin prescriptions monthly at several pharmacies in Duluth, as well as obtaining the drug from other sources. Nelson admitted distributing at least 3,200 Oxycontin tablets.

The case is the result of an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
