Duluth senior citizens can receive help in preparing their televisions to receive digital TV signals by calling a hotline at (218) 730-4388.

The volunteer-staffed hotline is part a new city program, which also includes assistance with obtaining coupons to purchase a converter box and with setting up the box. The Duluth Parks and Recreation Division's Senior Programs are coordinating the effort.

Hotline volunteers are trained to answer converter box installation questions. If callers are unable to successfully install the converter box, a Senior Programs-certified volunteer may go to their home to assist. All volunteers will carry official identification.

Although the national deadline for broadcasters to switch to digital signals was extended from next Tuesday to June 12, area broadcasters are making the switch next week as originally planned.

People can apply for coupons good for $40 off the price of a converter box by calling (888) 388-2009 (voice) or (877) 530-2634 (TTY). Coupons can also be ordered online at www.dtv2009.gov .
