A team from Duluth is among the 30 teams competing in the Red Bull Flugtag today in Chicago.
The Duluth team, called Suck on this Darwin!, will attempt to fly a homemade, human-powered airplane designed to resemble a penguin (hence the team name) off a 25-foot-high flight deck and into Lake Michigan.
The Duluth team's pilot is Miranda McGuire, and her teammates are Jen Brunette, Kalie Lindgren, Cory Johnson and Brian Rasmussen, according to Red Bull.
The record flight, set in 2000 in Austria, was 195 feet. One team today flew 120 feet, according to Red Bull.
