The city of Duluth is accepting public comments during a 30-day public review period for the Environmental Assessment Worksheet for a dredging project aimed at creating new habitat in the harbor off 21st Avenue West.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District wants to place a limited amount of dredged material from channel dredging in the harbor into an area

just off the mouth of Miller Creek. It's a test to see how the effort works, in preparation for a potential larger shallow-water habitat project in the future.

A copy of the document is available at duluthmn.gov/planning. Additional copies of the document are available for public review at Room 208 of City Hall and in the main downtown library. Comments must be made by May 1 to Charles Froseth, Land Use Supervisor, 411 W. First St., Room 208, Duluth, MN 55802. The Duluth Planning Commission also will take comments at its April 9 meeting.

E-mail comments may be sent to cfroseth@duluthmn.gov with "USACE 21st Avenue West Dredged Material" in the subject line. If submitting comments electronically, include your name and mailing address.
