Duluth resident to be inducted into Polka Hall of Fame

Duluth resident Ray Ahlgren is one of three inductees to the

2007 Ironworld Polka Hall of Fame.

Ahlgren, who has played polka music for nearly 60 years, on June 24 will be recognized with the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award. Ahlgren's band currently provides entertainment at local assisted living facilities and senior groups. His band also played at the late Gov. Perpich's inaguration dinner.

Other inductees are Jeff Walker of Butternut, Wis., and Joseph Fedorchak of Youngstown, Ohio.

Walker, a self-taught musician, began playing in his uncle's band when he was four years old. He is a daily radio talk show host and owns Rhapsody Records recording.

Fedorchak began accordian studies at age nine, later establishing his orchestra as one of the most popular polka groups. He currently is part of a Sunday morning polka radio show.

Ironworld's 30th Polkafest is June 22-24 at Ironworld Discovery Center in Chisholm. The event features some of the nation's top polka bands. For further information go to
